One of the requirements for certification for the performance benchmarks program is to provide the Office of the State Auditor with a declaration. What exactly is a declaration?

A declaration is an official resolution passed by the city council/county board that states that your entity has adopted, and implemented the performance measures and system developed by the Council on Local Results and Innovation. Click here to see sample resolutions.

There is a performance measure for police services, but our city contracts out for public safety services. Would we skip the performance measure dealing with the police services?

No, even when contracting out, it is a good idea to evaluate the service that you are receiving because you are funding it with your residents’ tax dollars.

When selecting the ten minimum performance measures, do we have to select one from each service category?

It is recommended to select at least one measure from each service category when applicable.
